| Gilbert Southern, a Kiewit affiliate, was established in the Southeast in the 1970s. Founded in 1884, Kiewit began as a building contractor in Omaha, Nebraska. Over the years, Kiewit has grown and expanded into nearly every field of construction, from power plants and buildings, to roads, bridges, tunnels, dams and pipelines. Gilbert Southern has played a major role in building the infrastructure that has helped the Southeast develop into one of the fastest growing regions in the U.S.
